Volume control turns off and on repeatedly

Summary

Troubleshooting when Chromebook volume toggles on and off automatically.

Body

Summary

Volume control constantly turns off and back on

Step-by-Step

  1. Open Services, locate 'Waves Audio Service,' stop it, and set it to disabled. This resolves the issue, but note that the front headphone jack may stop working. If it stops working do step 2.

  2. Visit Dell’s website and look up your service tag. Under 'Drivers and Downloads,' choose the category 'Application' and download the Dell Optimizer application. During installation, it will prompt you to uninstall the Waves driver or device—just click 'Yes' or 'OK.'

  3. After installation and a reboot, everything appears to function normally, with sound output working through external speakers, but the Waves Audio Service remains disabled.
